Study shows that Hybrid owners do not buy second one

A new study done on car buyers shows that Hybrid owners do not usually buy another Hybrid when they are ready to buy another car.

According to the study,  out of Hybrid owners that bought a new car in 2011, only 35 percent bought another Hybrid vehicle. Although, gas prices are very high and hybrid vehicles can help to alleviate this, these lower Hybrid retail numbers for second-time buyers even exists in “green” cities such as Seattle.

Hybrid sales reached its peak in 2012, with nearly 2.4 percent of the car market. It was found that just because hybrid owners did not purchase other hybrids, it was found that that owners did buy the same brand of vehicle.

One reason that car owners may switch to conventionally-powered vehicles is because of the advances that have been made in making these vehicles more fuel efficient in recent years.

Other factors such as safety rating and trade-in value are very important car owners are looking for a new vehicle. One way to make sure that your vehicle resells well, is to keep is in prime condition. Driver killed after overnight highway accident

A passenger was killed in a car accident that occurred overnight on a West Side Highway after the driver lost control of the vehicle while traveling north.

The New York City police are investigating the car crash in order to determine what caused the collision. The 20-year-old driver struck the guardrail and this caused the car to flip and roll over as a result.

The driver along with another passenger were taken to the hospital in order to be treated for injuries sustained. They were both listed in stable condition this morning.

Bicyclist injured after hit by car door, bus

A woman has been sentenced for driving with a suspended license after she opened her car door and struck a bicyclist. This impact caused the bicyclist to be hit by a bus and she later succumbed to injuries sustained.

According to the New York Post, the incident occurred in September 2010, when the bicyclist was riding in Brooklyn and her bike was struck by a car door which propelled her into the traffic where she was hit by a bus. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.

The woman who hit the bicyclist was not driving before the accident occurred and she called 911 as soon as she saw the crash occur.

Truck and SUV accident causes road closure on Route 58

A truck and SUV accident on Route 58 caused the road to be closed for hours on Friday.

According to officials, the accident occurred between Oaks and Adam Street on Route 58 when an oil truck was involved in an crash and caused an oil spill on the road.

Witnesses stated that the accident occurred when the SUV crossed the center line of the road and struck the edge of the oil truck. The truck then ran off the side of the road and hit a utility pole, which caused the truck’s frame to snap in half.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, the driver of the SUV had to be extricated from the vehicle as a result. Two girls that were riding the SUV were transported to the hospital in order to be treated for serious injuries. The woman who was driving the SUV was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries. No other information was released at this time.

Rollover accident leaves woman trapped under car

A woman was trapped under a car after a rollover accident that occurred in El Centro on Thursday.

According to California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on as a 22-year-old man was driving a Ford Mustang and his vehicle veered off of the road.

He then tried to bring the vehicle back on the roadway, but this sudden jerking caused the car to flip and roll into a field. The 22-year-old passenger was thrown from the car and into the field. As the car continued to flip over, the Mustang landed on top of the woman.

The driver got out of the car as soon as he could in order to help the woman who was trapped underneath.  She was then transported to the Desert Regional Medical Center in order to be treated for major chest and head injuries sustained in the accident.

Eight still in hospital after fatal Florida pileup

Eight people are still in the hospital after a pileup occurred on a Florida interstate on Sunday that killed at least 11 people and injured 18 more.

The accident occurred outside of Gainesville on a I-75, which was closed previously in the day because of the poor visibility in the area. The accident occurred after the road reopened, but the visibility was still poor because of fog and dense smoke from a nearby brush fire.

When rescue crews arrived at the scene, they were unable to see the victims and had to be guided by their screams and calls. Many of the vehicles burst into flames after the collision. A 15-year-old, whom lost three of her family members in the accident, is one of the victims still in recovery and she is currently in fair condition at Shands University Hospital.

Man arrested for third drunk driving charge in nine months

A man has recently been arrested for his third drunk driving arrest in nine months. The most recent arrest occurred on Tuesday and he is currently behind bars for the incident.

According to officials, the St. Cloud man was first arrested after being involved in a car accident that almost killed a mother and child. Months later he was arrested again for a DUI and is currently still facing charges with both cases.

According to police records from the first arrest, the 29-year-old man struck a sedan after weaving in and out of the oncoming lanes of traffic for some time. The man claims that he lost control because a tire blew on the vehicle. Blood tests that were later taken showed that the man was under the influence of alcohol, xanax, marijuana, and another sedative.

The next arrest occurred when police found him “passed out” behind the wheel of a car just after 3:30 a.m. The most recent arrest occurred after the man drove his car onto the sidewalk of the roadway and struck a pedestrian along with a mailbox, tree and other decor.

Four victims indentified after Costa Concordia crash

The Costa Concordia cruise accident has taken the lives of 11 people and 20 more remain unaccounted for at this time. Of the 11 found dead, four of them have now been identified by officials.

The captain of the Costa Concordia, who is now on house arrest, has been charged with manslaughter and abandoning ship before all passengers were secure. Information from the interrogation tape was leaked and that captain was heard saying that he “ordered the turn too late.”

The captain also said that the reason he went off course was to salute a former cruise ship captain who lived nearby. He has said that he has done that route multiple times and has never had an issue. This time, the water was too shallow and the boat grounded.

Fifty-four people injured in 79-car pileup

Fifty four people were injured in a 79-car pileup that occurred near Port Arthur on Highway 73.

According to Jefferson County Officials, the accident occurred just after 5:30 a.m. when police originally got a call about a four car accident. By the time emergency crews arrived at the scene, the accident involved nearly 50 cars. Two cars were also on fire at the time.

There was smoke and fog in the air at the time because of a nearby marsh fire and this caused the visibility of drivers to be limited.  Seventy-nine cars were involved in the pileup by the end. Other cars were also stopped on the highway to provide help to those in the accident.

Twenty ambulances arrived at the scene to transport injured people to the hospital. Four people were listed in critical condition, but their injuries were described as non-life threatening.

Drunk driver arrested after New York crash

A driver has been sentenced after a drunk driving crash in New York City that left one man dead.

According to the Wall Street Journal, The man plead guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated last month. The accident occurred as his car collided with a motorcycle in a Rochester suburb.

The motorcycle caught fire as a result of the crash and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. The 44-year-old driver of the car suffered non-life threatening injuries.
